For Students | Registration in majors
Registration
- The enrollment capacity for department registration (i.e., the capacity for Exercise Assignments C): 11 students.
- Conditions for Registration: The same as the general conditions for department registration. However, it is strongly recommended to have at least 24 credits in astrophysics, physics, and mathematics.
Selection Policy for Admission to the Department of Astrophysics
If the number of students wishing to register in the Department of Astrophysics exceeds the capacity, selection will be primarily based on academic performance. The evaluation of academic performance is as follows:
In principle, selection will be made based on grades alone. The grade taken into account is the number of credits for all grades, including credits not included in graduation requirements:
- a. Total number of credits obtained
- b. The completion status of courses recommended by the Department of Astrophysics (recommended courses are those listed in the “Guide to Course Selection“)
- c. The grades in each completed course (with a focus on the courses recommended by the Department of Astrophysics)
The evaluation score will be calculated using the following formula:
Evaluation Score = Number of credits obtained (including recommended courses) × 30 + Raw score of recommended courses (scores of 59 or lower are also considered)
For Exercise Assignments C1 (first semester), C2, C3, C4 (second semester), selection will be conducted collectively as “Astrophysics Exercise Assignments.” Therefore, your acceptance will not be influenced by which of the three second-semester assignments you prefer. However, when allocating accepted students to the three second-semester assignments after department registration, those with higher grades will be given priority in assignments where there are more applicants than available slots. Students exceeding the maximum capacity for their first choice will be reassigned to another exercise assignment.
The maximum number of students accepted for C2, C3, and C4 is approximately 4-5 each. If you wish to change your second-semester exercise course, please contact the faculty member in charge of undergraduate academic affairs by the end of August.
